The Urban Greening Botanical Garden at Chikozan Park in Sayama City (Kashiwabara district) held its “Spring Rose Festival” on May 16–17, attracting more than 10,000 visitors over two days.
According to director Chikako Miida, there are around 150–200 original rose species in the world, and the garden cultivates 80 varieties with approximately 700 bushes.
Across the 5.5-hectare park, roses were in full bloom, including varieties such as Miramare, Manou Meilland, Hiohgi, Timeless ’98 (red tones), Odeur d’Amour, Aromatherapy, Princess de Monaco (pink tones), Bolero, and Baby Iceberg (white tones).
The event enjoyed fine weather on both days and featured six stage performances, including local music groups such as The Sayama Benchaーズ, Sayama Ocarina Club, Acha Kazami, La Forêt Ensemble, Beltopia Duo, and the S-Kawa City Choir, drawing large audiences.
A family from Hanno said their 3-year-old daughter loves music and enjoyed the performances.
Visitors also noted discovering the event by chance and returning the next day, enjoying the relaxing atmosphere under the trees.
The park also hosted rose plant sales, tree consultation services, a cat adoption corner, a flea market, and food trucks.
A guided rose garden tour will be held on May 23–24, with sessions at 11:00 and 13:30, lasting about 30 minutes and requiring no reservation.
