The White House was placed under lockdown this Saturday (23) after gunshots were heard around the residence of the President of the United States. However, the lockdown was lifted around 6:45 p.m. (Eastern Time). In a statement, the Secret Service said: “Shortly after 6 p.m. on Saturday, an individual in the area of 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue pulled a firearm from his bag and began firing.” According to Fox News, at least 30 shots were heard.

The Secret Service stated that agents returned fire and hit the suspect, “who was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.” According to Jovem Pan, a bystander was also injured and taken to the hospital in serious condition. There is still no information about the other victim.

According to reports, U.S. President Donald Trump was inside the White House at the time of the incident, where he was trying to negotiate an agreement with Iran. The incident remains under investigation, and additional information will be released as it becomes available, the Secret Service said.

FBI Director Kash Patel said the agency provided support to the Secret Service. Selina Wang, an ABC News reporter covering daily political events in Washington, was at the scene and posted a video of the moment. “I was in the middle of recording a video on the North Lawn of the White House when I heard the shots. It sounded like dozens of gunshots. We were told to run to the press room,” Wang said.

Other members of the press who were at the scene were also instructed to go to the press room. The incident is under investigation, and the origin of the shooting is still unclear.
