According to local authorities, the incident happened around 12:55 p.m. during the “Kacchu Keiba,” a traditional armored horse race featuring riders dressed as samurai warriors.

During the race, one rider fell from the horse. The animal then continued running uncontrollably outside the course and entered an area near spectators.

Six women were injured after being struck by the horse or while trying to avoid it. Two people — a spectator and an event staff member — are believed to have suffered serious injuries, though both remained conscious. Another victim sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital.

The horse was later captured near the venue.

Witnesses said the horse ran at high speed through a passage between the track and spectator seating before colliding with people near the ticket booth area. One victim was reportedly bleeding at the scene.

The event took place at the Hibari-ga-Hara Festival Grounds, which had attracted around 40,000 visitors.
