Former Yomiuri Giants manager’s daughter says she turned to ChatGPT during family dispute: “I collapsed in tears watching my father being taken away”

The case involving former Yomiuri Giants manager Shinnosuke Abe took a deeply emotional turn after his eldest daughter released a public letter describing the shock, regret, and emotional pain caused by the nationwide attention surrounding the family dispute.

The letter was read aloud by the family’s attorney during a press conference held shortly after Abe submitted his resignation as manager. The resignation was accepted by team owner Juichi Yamaguchi.

At the beginning of the statement, the young woman apologized for the scale of the incident’s public impact.

“I deeply regret that something involving our family became such a major public matter,” she wrote.

“It was the first major fight between us”

According to the daughter, the argument with her father was highly unusual within their relationship.

She described Abe as cheerful, caring, and deeply involved in family life.

“We joke together, laugh together, and go out for meals like a normal family,” she explained.

The young woman said she had never experienced such a serious conflict with her father before and, overwhelmed emotionally and unsure how to respond, she turned to OpenAI ChatGPT for guidance.

ChatGPT consultation led to child welfare contact

In her letter, she explained that she asked the AI system what she should do in that situation.

According to her account, ChatGPT informed her that anonymous child welfare consultation services existed.

“I didn’t know what to do. ChatGPT explained that there were services where I could seek help anonymously,” she stated.

She said she was looking for emotional guidance and support, but never imagined the situation would escalate into police involvement.

“I was the most shocked of all”

One of the most emotional sections of the letter described the moment police arrived and took her father away.

“I was the most shocked person of all.”

“When I saw my father being taken away by the police right before my eyes, I broke down crying.”

The daughter said she never imagined the situation would grow to such proportions and admitted feeling ashamed that the private family conflict became national news.

“I feel deeply embarrassed that this became such a major incident,” she wrote.

Daughter denies severe physical violence

She also challenged some of the initial media reports published in Japan.

According to her statement, there were no acts involving punching or kicking.

The daughter said her own emotional way of explaining the incident contributed to exaggerated interpretations.

“My overly emotional explanation caused some reports to differ from reality.”

She also attempted to reassure people worried about her physical condition.

“My body is strong, so there is no need to worry.”

“My father and I have already reconciled”

Despite the family crisis and the intense public attention, the young woman emphasized that she and her father have already made peace.

“My father and I have already reconciled, so please do not worry.”

At the end of the letter, she made an emotional appeal asking people to stop online harassment and hateful comments directed at her family.

“I understand it may be difficult in today’s society to stop criticism and attacks online, but I sincerely hope people will refrain from doing so.”

Case sparks debate over AI and emotional support

The incident has also fueled discussion in Japan about the growing use of artificial intelligence tools for emotional support and personal guidance.

Experts point out that AI systems may provide useful information and initial direction, but cannot replace:

  • psychological counseling;

  • family mediation;

  • professional support in sensitive situations.

At the same time, the case highlighted how many people — especially younger generations — increasingly turn to technology during moments of emotional vulnerability and loneliness.

More than simply a police matter, the incident exposed an intimate family drama unfolding under intense public and digital scrutiny.
