An unprecedented warm spell has triggered the highest temperatures of the year so far across key Japanese metropolitan areas, including Tokyo, Nagoya, and Fukuoka. By late afternoon, official data confirmed that 196 monitoring stations nationwide had breached the 30°C threshold, marking the most widespread heat event of 2026.
Meteorological projections show the high-temperature system intensifying over the coming days. The number of regions experiencing values above 30°C is expected to climb swiftly to 250 localities, eventually nearing 300 observation points as the heat wave reaches its maximum coverage.
